Pandemic Fatigue Poses Some Risks

After over two years, it should come as no surprise that many people are at the very least bored of this horrifying pandemic, if not far more fatigued, ill, and tired of it and its impact on our lives!

However, this should not and cannot explain some people's complete contempt for the greater good and abiding by fundamental, common sense, public health preventative measures! How did this become another political issue, with so many people clearly prioritizing their personal/political interests and agendas? How many more people must be infected, hospitalized, put others in danger, and/or die?

Many seniors, as well as the immune - weakened, have succumbed, and we still do not know all of the potential long-term repercussions and impacts! Why, despite its efforts and spending, does this country have one of the lowest immunization rates in the world, even among first-tier, developed nations? Everyone is tired of this and wants things to get back to normal, but the efforts of a minority impair our overall efforts and our ability to optimize our efforts! With that in mind, this post will aim to evaluate and review this briefly, as well as why we must do better.

1) Conspiracy theories: For various reasons, some people prefer to trust unsubstantiated beliefs and accept them as facts. It began with denials, progressed to accusations, and resulted in damaging resistance. Is there anyone who has not witnessed or experienced the loss of a loved one? While everyone is free to hold their own opinion, they are not free to hold their own set of facts. It's one thing if your acts only hurt you; it's quite another when they endanger others!

2) Politics: Why has this, like so many seemingly common-sense topics, become political? There is a significant difference between a realistic solution and a well-thought-out strategy and blame and moaning, denials, and stubbornness!

3) Data and science are important: As Mike Bloomberg likes to remark, "We have faith in God. Everyone else brings data." History demonstrates that it needs a science-based plan that is endorsed and supported by public health, medical, and scientific workers and experts to develop significant, fact-based activities.

4) Mandate opposition: While we have experienced public health mandates in the past, it appears that we are witnessing the most polarized society in recent memory! Just because one does not agree does not imply that he is more knowledgeable than the experts!

Either we move forward in a more cohesive manner, or the tragedies continue. Wake up, America, before you lose this battle like so many others! It is entirely up to everyone of us!
